Step 3: Prescribe Action

After you have collected the necessary data and information and the risk analysis is complete, action may be needed to reduce risk and to increase compliance.

Prescribing action involves two distinct steps:

1. Identifying the cause of the risk, such as lack of knowledge or willful disregard of laws and regulations.
2. Selecting and implementing an appropriate response. When selecting an appropriate response always consider the level of risk, the likelihood of the risk occurring, and the ability to effectively deal with the risk.
