Step 1: Data & Information Collection

Data and information collection is already a standard procedure in Customs. For example, investigations begin with Special Agents collecting and analyzing data and information.

To be most effective, risk management requires that we collect useful data in a systematic manner. Building the initial database is a major task, but there is no way to overstate the critical, ongoing importance of this phase. Combining this data with current information ensures that we are able to direct our resources against the risks that pose the most significant threat or impact to our operations.
